After we finished our Thailand trip we headed back to cape town in South Africa for 3 weeks to prepare for our Brazilian Move. During that time we also stayed in the town of Onrus , near Hermanus in the Western Cape and then travelled up to storms river , stopping in at Struisbaai , the small fishing town near the southern most tip of Africa . You can spot Giant Shorttail stingray here almost everyday which is very exciting.
We went as far as Storms river and then Stopped in at Mossel bay to visit the Diaz Museum , dedicated to the first Portuguese explorer to round the tip of Africa in 1498 on his way to India,Bartolomeu Diaz . This was fitting as we were about to head to Brazil and they have a giant recreation of his Carvel ship , which auctually made the exact same voyage to arrive at the Museum in 1988. We also passed through the Klein Karoo , visting the hot springs at Warm WatersBerg where we stayed in a very nice caravan and the Cango caves as well. Finally we headed back to Cape Town and flew to São Paulo . From there we went to the Brazilian city of São Jose dos Campos , Campinas and also took a short trip to the sea where we visited São Sebastião , Ilhabela and the surf town of maresias.
Ilha Bela is famous for it’s black flies that bite called borrachudo , these really do exist and the bite itches like crazy . Here are some pictures of the journey which took us From a tropical climate to a mediterranean winter , through a semidesert , a temperate forest and coastline and finally all the way back to a Tropical winter in Brazil.
